Whether this is your child’s first visit to a dentist or this is your first visit to our
office, it is important that your child feels comfortable and begins developing a trusting
relationship with the office staff.
The first visit is designed to gain your child’s confidence and trust. Each child is unique;
we understand their curiosity and apprehension and give each patient individualized
attention. One of our highly trained staff members will guide your child through this
introduction.
During this appointment we spend time with you and your child on tooth brushing and
reviewing food choices that help fight tooth decay. We also review the child’s medical and
dental history, take any necessary x-rays, perform a cleaning and fluoride treatment, and
discuss your child’s present dental needs along with any recommended treatment.
Please discuss the positive aspects of dentistry with your child. You can explain that Dr.
Barnett will count and take pictures of his or her teeth. Please do not tell your child that
the “dentist will not hurt” as this may not ever have entered his or her mind. Also please
avoid using words such as “needle, shot, and pull” or any other words suggesting
unpleasantness. Expect your child to do well and enjoy their visit to our office and chances
are they will do just that!
We invite you to be present with your child during the first visit to our practice and for
all preventative care appointments. During other visits, which will require your child’s
undivided attention, our staff will accompany them to maximize the chances of a successful
visit. |
